Wilkes Community Partnership for Children recognizes Early Childhood Teacher for January

Wilkes Community Partnership for Children presented Jennifer Black, teacher at The Children’s Center of Wilkes, with a door plaque in January for her work with young children.

Wilkes Community Partnership for Children has a recognition program for child care teachers based on observations by the Partnership staff of outstanding achievement in child care. Each month a teacher is presented with a door plaque with the teacher’s name in appreciation for the dedication to the children they serve. In January, Wilkes Community Partnership for Children recognizes Ms. Jennifer Black. Ms. Black is the infant teacher at The Children’s Center of Wilkes.  During her Environmental Rating Scale Observation she scored a 5.48 out of 7.00.  Her hard work and deep compassion for teaching is reflected by her score.  Ms. Black recently attended training on Indoor Bad Weather Activities and has implemented indoor activities for infants that were effective.  She truly takes the extra steps to be a dedicated teacher every day.
Wilkes Community Partnership for Children appreciates her dedication to serving children in Wilkes County. Wilkes Community Partnership for Children, a local Smart Start agency, is a United Way partner agency.

Wilkes Community Partnership for Children announced it has received an $800 Walmart Grant to support their Reach Out and Read Program.

Reach Out and Read is a program that prepares young children to succeed in school by partnering with doctors to “prescribe” books and encourage families to read together. Building on the belief that parents are their children’s first and most important educators, Reach Out and Read provides families with the books and developmental information they need to prepare their young learners for lifelong social, emotional, and academic success. Given that 90% of a child’s brain development occurs before age 5, the program reaches children during this critical window of opportunity. Reach Out and Read is designed to prevent learning deficiencies before they occur, giving children the chance they deserve to reach their tremendous innate potential. Wilkes County has 5 pediatric offices that participate in the Reach Out and Read program serving over 3,000 children.

The Walmart grant will be used to purchase books for approximately 400 children.  The Walmart Local Giving Program, believes in operating globally and giving back locally – creating impact in the neighborhoods where we live and work. Wilkes Community Partnership for Children is appreciative of the grant and the impact it will have on Wilkes County children.
